SAN LUIS OBISPO — Cal Poly community members will have an easier time getting around campus during the day this fall, thanks to a new campus partnership.

Starting with the 2022-23 academic year, Mustang Shuttle, a free shuttle service for students and employees, will run from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in addition to its current evening hours from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The daytime shuttle will run Monday through Friday; the evening shuttle runs seven days a week.

Mustang Shuttle’s extended hours will increase convenience and help enhance accessibility across campus. The shuttle is accessible to those with disabilities.

Associated Students Incorporated (ASI), the University Union Advisory Board (UUAB), University Housing, Cal Poly Corporation and Public Safety partnered with SLO Safe Ride to extend Mustang Shuttle hours.

“It’s been great to see the popularity and early adoption of Mustang Shuttle this past year, and we are very excited to be able to offer more,” Transportation and Parking Services Director Marlene Cramer said. “But we couldn’t have done this alone. A huge thanks goes to our university partners for helping make this happen.”

Cal Poly’s Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS), a department of Public Safety, partnered with SLO Safe Ride in November 2021 to provide the seven-day-a-week shuttle service, which immediately gained popularity and extended its hours for winter quarter.

More than 36,000 rides were given in just seven months last academic year. Following positive feedback, TAPS approached ASI, UUAB, Housing and Cal Poly Corporation about a potential partnership.

“ASI is hopeful that through our contributions to the Mustang Shuttle, the program can increase the campus safety and make traveling around campus more accessible for all Cal Poly students,” said Marirose Evenden, chair of the ASI board of directors.

Catching a ride on the shuttle will be even easier this fall following the fall 2022 release of a Mustang Shuttle app that will allow users to track the location of the shuttles and see accurate arrival times. The app will soon be available in the App Store and Google Play.

Mustang Shuttle follows a scheduled route with six campus stops throughout the day and nine in the evening. The daytime route now includes stops at the poultry, dairy and wine and viticulture units.

The daytime stops are:
