Biography

David Mitchell is a professor in the physics and liberal studies departments, specializing in astronomy. His research is in the detection and characterization of extrasolar planets – planets that orbit other stars. In collaboration with colleagues in Germany and elsewhere, Mitchell has discovered several planets orbiting giant stars. He has used both large observatories and the small telescope on Cal Poly’s campus for his research.
