SAN LUIS OBISPO — The Cal Poly 5G Innovation Lab, powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS), has partnered with Kajeet, a leading provider of managed connectivity solutions, to increase connectivity on campus and provide a leading-edge platform for innovation.

Kajeet’s neutral host capabilities improve reliability and performance on campus through high-quality connections resulting in faster speeds and reduced downtime. Unlike WiFi, Kajeet’s private wireless neutral host platform supports full mobility. As users move throughout a building, calls and data sessions remain uninterrupted, offering a robust and reliable solution for in-building coverage.

“Kajeet’s expertise in secure, managed connectivity aligns perfectly with Cal Poly’s 5G Innovation Lab’s mission to explore advanced network solutions like neutral host and private networks,” said Sajaa Altaleb, the 5G Innovation Lab’s program lead. “This collaboration will empower students and researchers to push the boundaries of next-generation networking technologies in real-world environments.”

The Cal Poly Digital Transformation Hub (DxHub) established the 5G Innovation Lab in May 2023, leveraging a private wireless network powered by AWS and integrated with T-Mobile service to enhance innovation capabilities on campus.

To meet the demands of a growing campus community, Cal Poly’s private 5G network delivers seamless connectivity and streamlined operations throughout campus. With Kajeet, a mobile network operator that delivers internet access to a variety of industries across North America and two dozen other countries, Cal Poly gains increased control of their private network, enhancing security. The firm can manage who accesses the network and what data is transmitted and can use a standardized system with authentication and encryption.

“We are honored to partner with Cal Poly, a renowned institution recognized for its commitment to innovation and excellence,” said Jamaal Smith, Kajeet vice president of sales and business development. “At Kajeet, we are excited to provide advanced connectivity solutions, including neutral host and private networks, to support Cal Poly’s mission of fostering cutting-edge research and education. Together, we look forward to enhancing the campus experience by delivering reliable and secure wireless infrastructure that meets the growing demands of today’s digital landscape.”

This partnership allows Cal Poly students opportunities through collaborative projects to interact with Kajeet professionals, gaining mentorship and insights into the industry. This exposure helps students build valuable networks, understand career pathways in telecommunications and technology, and explore potential of internships and job placements within the rapidly growing field of 5G and private networks.
